Licensed Practical Nurse Training

Licensed practical nurse training is the most important qualification required to pursue a career in nursing. Also known as licensed vocational nurses or LVN's, their main duty involves providing basic care to the sick and the injured people. They work under the directions of physicians, doctors and senior nurses. LPN's or Licensed practical nurses have direct interaction with patients and their duties can vary from giving injections to reading vital signs, dressing wounds, administering medication and performing diagnostic tests. With some special training and experience, LPN's also assist in surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics.

The Training
Licensed practical nurse training is a must if you are thinking of pursuing a career as a licensed practical nurse. Apart from your GRD or high school diploma, you will have to sit for, and clear your graduation in an accredited LPN program. You will also have to clear the National Council Licensure Examination. Most licensed practical nurse training programs have a built-in one year training program, which is concluded with gaining hands on experience in a hospital. The subjects in the course include biology, anatomy, chemistry, emergency medical technology, psychology, first aid, food and nutrition, physical education, child growth and development, and clinical practice under supervision for taking care of patients.

LPN License
You will get your LPN license after you pass NCLEX-PN exam, which is a state administered nursing examination. You can qualify for the NCLEX-PN exam only if you have successfully completed your licensed practical nurse training program, and it should be approved by the Board of Nursing of your state.
